Megan's Tail Chapter 12: Swimming In The Reefs Megan and I live in the Florida Keys. Where exactly? I won’t specify. But I can tell you we’re located somewhere within the 120-mile stretch between the northernmost part of Key Largo and the southernmost part of Key West. The Keys are an archipelago of tropical islands located at the southern tip of Florida. They are surrounded by four bodies of water: the Atlantic Ocean, the Florida Bay, the Straits of Florida, and the Gulf of Mexico. There are approximately 1,700 islands, twenty-two of which make up the main islands. Each of these islands are connected by US Highway One, or the Overseas Highway. This road spans over forty-two bridges, including the Seven-Mile-Bridge, one of the largest segmental bridges in the world. Located at the southernmost tip of these islands is Key West, which is also the southernmost point of the continental United States.
